This one's Wendy's favourite gnarly tree.  Depending on the angle, its a duck or an eagle or a swan or a dragon or pretty much anything else you want.  She's been at the hooch down here, though...

Guess where?  I missed the Needles Highway turn so we went round the long way.  

Anyone know what this would be worth?  The tailgate says Ford, the fender says 6x6.  Yep, both rear axles are dualies.  Sorry about the crappy pic.  

Katherine's Landing, Lake Mead NRA, just north of Bullhead City.  $10 for an 8 day entry pass, and $10/night camping (no hookups of course, but showers and dump).  Good place to stay sometime, but a boat would be a real bonus (they do rent them there - houseboats too).  

Being raised in BC, I can drive twisty roads and take pictures too.  Back in the old days I may have had a smoke and a (really old days) beer going, too!  

Day trip to Wickenburg

Wildlife.  Made me miss Alberta... for about 3 seconds...

Vic liked the Hwy 97/96 portion.  Others, not so much...

Rocks and more rocks.  We kept an eye out for Wiley Coyote with a pry bar, but all were safe.  

We took a vote and we think that's snow, but we didn't go closer to investigate.  Yuck.  

Congress to Wickenburg... GREAT road, great view.  Go the other direction to give the passenger the best benefit, though, and hug the shoulder.  

Back around Bouse.  Dark clouds all round all day, but only 25 drops on the windshield.  

Sorry, but I really like the old gnarly things.  Maybe cuz I are one.

To Imperial Dam...no... To Quartzsite... no... To Bouse!

To explain: I've always wanted to peek at Imperial Dam BLM, so this trip we made it a destination.  We saw, we weren't thrilled, we kept going.  Stopped for the night at our "usual" spot on La Paz Road, and the next morning decided to move over to the Bouse side of the mountain to spend a few days.  We've also talked about finding a good spot there.  The first spot we chose was great, except that we lost the internet and couldn't get it back; the second spot is good.  Can't camp without internet, right?  


Haven't done much since we got set up, as you can see...

At Organ Pipe we couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched by a giant gorilla...

Papers please!  If you're within 100 miles of the border, carry your passports or they get ugly.  Maybe if we weren't so dark and latin-looking...

Only took one pic at Imperial Dam, but this is typical of the areas we looked at.  The terrain is a lot more rolling than Q, so fewer places to park and more units clustered together.  Might be some more remote spots if a person looked around more... we didn't.  Maybe someday... 

The connector road from Imperial Dam to Highway 95 crosses army land, and is in darned good shape as one would expect.  Highly recommend this route if you go... we came up from Yuma on AZ24 and the road wasn't very good most places.  

They're right proud of their tanks over the years.  This rest area is just west of Highway 95.  We didn't stop this time.  

First spot we tried on the Bouse side.  We ALMOST had good internet.  If that doesn't matter to you, punch 33.82730 -114.05223 into your GPS.  You'll have to figure out the last 1/2 mile, of course.

The second Bouse campsite.  More open, lower down, a little further from the road... but within view of the  T-Mobile tower which makes up for it.  33.85003 -114.03455.  Shhh, don't tell anyone...

Did I mention we like to be by ourselves?  

Woman make fire ring (we're so far in the boonies there wasn't one) and bring wood for campfire... GOOD!
Man make satellite TV for hockey game... BETTER!

Get the campfire out of the way early (that's supper "cooking" on the BBQ), so we can watch the Oilers lose uninterrupted.  Too cold to sit out late anyway; once the sun sets the temp drops to mid 40s at night - chilly.  Not complaining, though, we'll just tough it out...
